However, utility lines (ventilation, cables, pipes) compromise their integrity, creating potential routes for fire and smoke propagation.

Why is it crucial to seal penetrations?

Mistakes we most often find on site

Ordinary expanding foam in a penetration. It burns and lets smoke through — the penetration looks sealed but is not a barrier.
Reopened penetrations. A new cable or pipe was pulled through a finished penetration and the seal was not restored.
Combustible pipes without collars. In a fire a plastic pipe burns away and leaves an open hole in the wall — such pipes are protected with collars, not just sealant.
Sealing by eye. The material is applied thinner or shallower than its certificate requires — the fire resistance rating is not achieved.

When re-sealing is needed

After reconstruction, equipment replacement or running new services through existing walls and floors. We inspect every penetration on site, list the reopened and damaged ones and restore them.
